André Derain

André Derain, think "Daring Derain," boldly pushed the boundaries of color! His early Fauvist works exploded with intense, non-naturalistic colors – think fiery reds, electric blues, and shocking greens, applied in thick, visible brushstrokes. This was all about emotional expression and celebrating the act of painting itself, rather than precise representation. Later, he shifted towards a more classical style, influenced by Cubism and Renaissance masters, but a certain boldness and experimental spirit always remained.
